Abstract

A series of different forms of tumors are classed together as “kidney cancer.” Kidney tumors in children are preponderantly nephroblastomas (Wilms’ tumours), while those in adults are preponderantly carcinomas or sarcomas. With carcinomas it is necessary to differentiate between those of the actual kidney cells and those of the transitional tissue of the renal pelvis and the renal duct. It appears plausible that, due to the common tissue type of renal pelvis, ureter, and bladder, these organ tumors also have common risk factors that do not necessarily coincide with those of kidney cell carcinomas or even nephroblastomas.
