Abstract

Tumors of the testes are a rare form of cancer and occur at various ages in differing morphological types, which again differ considerably in survival probability. The importance of this group of tumors as a cause of death for men compared to that of prostate cancer is very much lower (in the USA the frequencies are about 1:19). In the age groups between 20 and 34 years, however, testis tumors have advanced to first place among malignant neoplasms in men (7.0 to 10.0). The increase in incidence observed among young and middle-aged men in many industrial countries is a sufficient reason for treating this group of diseases in this Atlas. In the international comparison, the Federal Republic of Germany, next to Denmark (6.7) and Switzerland (9.9 in Vaud), has high rates, above all in Hamburg with 5.4 (the Saarland has 3.4), while low rates are reported from Cuba (0.3), Puerto Rico (0.5) and in Europe from Poland (1.1), Romania, and Spain (1.3), In Africans and Black in North America testis tumors occur much more rarely than in Caucasians.
