Abstract

With an age-adjusted incidence rate of 27.7 (1975), carcinoma of the corpus uteri takes third place among tumors in white women in the USA [68](about 2 to 3 times more frequent than with Blacks). In Europe the tumour is much rarer (German Democratic Republic 14.3; Italy 14.2; Denmark and Sweden 13.0; Federal Republic of Germany/Hamburg 10.3; Scotland 8.0; Romania 6.2). In Africa and East Asia the incidence rates are 1.0 to 4.0. The figures on the geographical distribution of the two types of cancer of the uterus (cancer of cervix and of corpus) show considerable differences. Thus, cervical carcinoma is 12 times more frequent than corpus carcinoma in Columbia; in Japan the incidence ratio of the two forms of cancer is 8.7:1, in Romania 4.7:1, in Poland 2.6:1, in the German Democratic Republic and the Federal Republic of Germany about 2:1, and in Scandinavia and Great Britain 1.5:1. In southern Europe and in New Zealand both forms are about equally frequent; in Israel and in the USA the corpus carcinoma predominates, being two- to threefold more frequent [11].
