Principles and Goals of the Graphical Kernel System
The information contained in this chapter was first presented in a paper of the DIN Computer Graphics group [ENDE81]. Later it was included in the GKS draft standard in order to offer explanations and justifications for design decisions during the GKS development. GKS was designed to provide a set of functions for computer graphics programming that can be used by the majority of applications that produce computer generated pictures.
