Abstract

To unify the great variety of hardware input devices, a small number of well-defined abstract input devices is identified. The concept of virtual input devices was enunciated by Wallace [WALL76] as a means whereby interactive graphics applications could be insulated from the peculiarities of the input devices of particular terminals.
