Abstract

Stress in the hip joint may be reduced in other ways besides osteotomy. In fact the resultant force R, and therefore P R and Q R , which act on the hip, may be reduced in four ways:

  1. 1.

    By shifting the body’s centre of gravity towards the supporting limb in monopodal support

  2. 2.

    By using one stick on the healthy or diseased side

  3. 2.

    By using two sticks

  4. 2.

    By carrying a weight
