Zusammenfassung

Kala-Azar wird durch Leishmania donovani ausgelöst. Endemische Herde finden sich in Asien, aber auch im nahen Osten, im Mittelmeerraum, Afrika und Amerika. Bei dieser Erkrankung sind die Organe des retikuloendothelialen Systems (Leber, Milz, Lymphknoten und Knochenmark) betroffen. In der Leber sind die von Kupffer-Sternzellen, nicht aber die Hepatozyten mit Leishmanien beladen.
