Summary
The book presents some results of an empirical investigation concerning the information systems in personnel within the 220 largest national and multinational German corporations. As in many industrialized countries computer assisted information systems in personnel have been set up since the beginning of the last decade. Governments, local authorities, insurances, hospitals, credit bureaus, and large enterprises use automated systems, containing data on persons. This technological development is due to three main reasons:
-
the pressure to rationalize in order to save expenses or to obtain or safeguard competitive advantages
-
the desire to have more comprehensive information available more quickly to improve internal administration and planning
-
the demand for quick and accurate communication caused by the growing interdependance between private and state authorities.
