Zusammenfassung

Die Adenoviridae bestehen aus 2 Genera: Mastadenovirus und Aviadenovirus; innerhalb dieser Genera sind mehr als 80 Species oder Serotypen bekannt. Beim Menschen kommen zumindest 34 Adenoviren vor; einige verursachen eine akute Erkrankung des Respirationstraktes, andere eine Pharyngitis. Einzelne Adenoviren rufen Erkrankungen des äußeren Auges (Conjunctivalsack) hervor. Bestimmte Adenoviren können als Modell für krebserzeugende Viren dienen, da sie in Hamstern Tumoren induzieren.
