Abstract

In this chapter, we shall introduce a network language in order to represent the thermodynamic processes and their interactions which typically occur in biological systems. The question whether there is a real need for such a new language is primarily a question of convenience. After having introduced the physical basis of thermodynamic processes like transfer of heat and matter or chemical reactions in the previous chapter, the introduction of a new language does not bring into play any substantially new physical aspect. On the other hand, the utilization of an appropriate language is very often a decisive step when formulating and solving a problem.
