Abstract
Tumours are not common in childhood; nevertheless, in relatively well-developed countries with good environmental and personal health services, neoplastic disorders rank second only to accidents as a cause of death in children over the age of one year. It is estimated [2] that there are about 70 new cases of tumours in childhood per annum in a total population of about 3,000,000. Of these, over half are accounted for by the two commonest groups, leukaemia and nervous system tumours.
