Zusammenfassung
Die 1884 erstmals von Krönlein vorgenommene Appendektomie hat die zuvor in etwa 20% letal verlaufende Appendicitis einer weitgehend sicheren Heilung zugeführt [23]. Die Indikation zu dieser Operation wurde 1886 durch Fitz für die akute Appendicitis präzisiert. Die Bedeutung der Frühoperation wurde 1888 von McBurney erkannt [23]. Diese entscheidende Wende in der Behandlungsmöglich- keit der Appendicitis hat rasch zu einer großzügigen Indikationsstellung unter Chirurgen und praktizierenden Ärzten geführt; bald blieb sie nicht mehr auf die akute Appendicitis beschränkt, sondern schloß chronische und subakute Stadien mit ein.
