Zusammenfassung

Die Entdeckung von Hench und seinen Mitarbeitern, daß gewisse Nebennierenrindenhormone oder ihre Stimulierung durch ACTH dramatische Besserungen bei primär-chronischem Rheumatismus (pr. chr. Rh.) bewirken können, ist 10 Jahre alt. Auch bei akutem rheumatischem Fieber wurden — von Thorn, Boland und Markson bestätigte — Erfolge mitgeteilt. Thorn behandelte bereits drei Erythematodes (L.E.D.)-Patienten erfolgreich, und auch Elkington konnte schon 1949 mit seinen Mitarbeitern offenbar moribunde L.E.D.- und Dermatomyositisfälle zur Remission bringen. In Deutschland sahen Schuermann und Döpfmer 1950 nicht nur den ersten ACTH-Erfolg bei akutem L.E.D., sondern sie wiesen auch als erste den L.E.-Faktor in Liquor und Urin nach.
