Abstract
Child and adolescent psychiatry is a very young professional qualification in our country. It was realized as late as the 1950s that such a differentiation in the medical practice was possible and this resulted in the establishment of the first ward in child psychiatry in 1959. It was attached to the adult clinic within the psychiatric department. Other medical specialists at the medical faculty in Sofia, such as pediatricians, neurologists, and general practitioners, continued for a long time not to be interested in the psychological and psychopathological problems of children, and the adult psychiatrists are just starting to realize the importance of the child’s development for the mental health of the adult.
