Abstract
In “Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in Sweden during the 1990s” (Swedish Association for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, 1993) it was stated that the discipline is a resource on specialist level within the national health service system. The goals to be fulfilled are to recognize, cure, relieve, and prevent any psychiatric disease or disorder that could be an obstacle to a child’s personal development and maturity. The discipline should also take responsibility that the interests of children be covered in society through their parents and the school, social welfare, and health care systems. Characteristic of child and adolescent psychiatry is its field of knowledge to be of multidisciplinary nature. Medical, psychological, and social knowledge are integrated into a central focus on psychopathology and how to release resources in the child and its family.
