Abstract
According to the evolutional tendencies and to the understanding at European and worldwide levels of “psychiatry and psychotherapy of child and adolescent”, the expert committee from the Health Department in Romania suggested in 1997 to change the specialty’s name from “psychiatry of the child and adolescent” to “psychiatry and psychotherapy of the child and adolescent”. Until 1996, the specialty functioned under the title “infantile neuro-psychiatry”. These facts also had consequences in defining the area. By 1996, the practicing of the specialty unfolded both in neurology and in psychiatry (the psychotherapeutical treatments having no official certification). After 1990, the separation process between these two specialties (pediatric neurology and child and adolescent psychiatry) started, with systematic training according to the international requirements in the psycho-therapeutical treatment methods.
