Immune Consequences of Lung Injury

Summary

The immune consequences of thoracic injury with or without lung tissue lesions on 24 patients are demonstrated. Flow cytometric analysis of peripheral blood mononuclear cells shows an immune response due to the injury. There is a shift in cellular balance of peripheral blood T-helper/supressor cells. Patients with cancer show a reduced postoperative immune response, i.e. a decrease in immunocompetent cells. Increased neopterin levels showed a release of tumor antigen by manipulation of lung tissue.

Zusammenfassung

Am Beispiel operativer Thoraxtraumen mit oder ohne Verletzungen von Lungengewebe wird die Immunantwort des peripheren Blutes dargestellt. Die flowcytometrische Analyse des mononucleären Zellkonzentrates zeigt eine periphere Immunantwort. Es kommt zu einer Veränderung der zellulären Balance von T-Helfer und -Supressorzellen. Patienten mit Lungentumoren zeigen eine deutliche postoperative Immunschwäche, ausgedrückt im Abfall immunkompetenter Zellen. Die erhöhte Neopterinfreisetzung ist Folge intraoperativer Freisetzung von Tumorantigen durch Manipulation am Gewebe.
