Postoperative Intestinal Absorption

Summary

To assess postoperative intestinal absorption, a modified D-xylose test was used. After singledose administration, the absorption kinetics were measured in the pre- and posthepatic blood compartments. With increasing time after operation, the rate and extent of absorption returned towards normal. There were significant differences in D-xylose kinetics dependent on degree of stress and postoperative gastric decompression. Absorption capacity returned to normal after 48 h in controls and after 72 h following elective gastrointestinal surgery.

Zusammenfassung

Ein modifizierter D-Xylose-Test wurde zur Ermittlung der postoperativen Dünndarmresorption eingesetzt. Nach einer single-dose-Applikation wurde die Xylose-Kinetik im prä- und posthepatischen Blutkompartment messend verfolgt. Mit zunehmenden Abstand zum Operationsende normalisierten sich Geschwindigkeit und Ausmaß der Resorption in Abhängigkeit vom Streßgrad. Durch eine postoperative Dekompression des Magens konnte die Resorption günstig beeinflußt werden. In der Kontrollgruppe normalisierte sich die Resorption nach 48 h.
