Chaos and Nonlinear Effects in Josephson Junctions and Devices

  • Chapter
Nonlinear Dynamics in Solids

Abstract

The planar Josephson tunnel junction driven by both ac- and dc-current sources is a relatively simple physical system which displays a wide range of nontrivial nonlinear phenomena. Chaotic behaviour in this system was first revealed in simulations by Huberman et al. [1] and by Kautz et al. [2]. Subsequently the existence of chaos in Josephson junctions has been verified by theory [3 – 10] and simulations [11–20].
