Zusammenfassung
Die genetische Information ist in der Basensequenz der DNA kodiert. Neben der Information für RNAs, u.a. mRNAs mit der kodierten Information für die Proteine, enthält die DNA auch die genetische Information für die Kontrolle des Ablesens, des Prozessierens und der Translation der RNAs. Wie schon in Kap. 4 beschrieben, besitzt die DNA außerdem Abschnitte mit einer Konformationsinformation. Es gibt weiterhin DNA-Abschnitte, die wichtig für die Struktur und für die Funktion der Chromosomen als Verpackungs- und Transporteinheiten des genetischen Materials sind. Und schließlich gibt es große DNA-Strecken, die möglicherweise keine Funktion haben.
