Zusammenfassung

Myome sind die häufigsten pathologischen Veränderungen am Uterus. Als gutartige Tumoren der Geschlechtsreifephase können sie durch ihre Auswirkungen auf ihre Umgebung (Blutungen, Schmerzen, Vergrößerung des Leibesumfanges) Krankheitswert erhalten, müssen es aber nicht. Ihre Häufigkeit scheint seit vielen Jahrzehnten konstant zu sein. Bei etwa 20% aller Frauen, die älter sind als 30–35 Jahre werden sie beobachtet. Seltener finden sie sich bei jüngeren Frauen. Weit vorwiegend gehen sie vom Corpus uteri aus und wachsen multipel. Für ihr Wachstum benötigen sie den Östrogenstimulus von seiten funktionierender Ovarien. Im Verlauf des physiologischen Erlöschens der Ovarialfunktion oder nach vorheriger Entfernung der Ovarien bilden sie sich in aller Regel zurück.
