Summary
After some remarks on expert system technology in general and special goals of the IXMO-system an introduction to the system concept is given: Completed car-engines are tested on their functions. If there is any negative report, the relevant data will be examined by the expert system in order to get the right source of error. This diagnostic process runs automatically, although there is an additional ability to communicate with the experts of the testing site in critical cases. The IXMO-system is working at two production sites of the German automotive industry since fall of 1985.
