Summary
The paper describes an adaptive control algorithm which, at the push of a button, adapts the parameters of P, PI and PID regulators to the associated process. This algorithm is implemented in the PROCONTROL industrial control system developed by Brown, Boveri & Cie. Integration into this control system enables the algorithm to access the data of every control loop and thus to adjust every regulator of the plant. The adaptive algorithm identifies the process by the recursive-least squares method. On the basis of the identified model, the control parameters are determined using complex adjusting rules. PROCONTROL I provides the user with comprehensive information: Simulation of the identified process and of the closed loop with the adapted regulator is possible. The quality of the adaptive algorithm is demonstrated on a non-linear temperature control loop in a coking plant.
