Zusammenfassung

Die Entdeckung der Konjugation war zwar an sich wichtig, aber auch deshalb von Bedeutung, weil sie die Existenz eines unerwarteten genetischen Elements, des F-Plasmids, zeigte. Dieses Plasmid, das das am besten untersuchte Plasmid und daher ein hervorragendes Beispiel für diese interessante Gruppe von DNA-Molekülen ist, wird in diesem Kapitel behandelt. Später wurden noch viele andere Typen an Plasmiden entdeckt, wovon ein repräsentatives Beispiel im Kap. 11 besprochen wird.
