Summary

The design of complex digital circuits itself is a very complicated process. To cope with this degree of complexity the design must be subdivided into a sequence of smaller design steps. This paper deals with some principal aspects of this approach and describes two design-tools for methodical, computer-aided design. One tool, the CAP system, primarily supports the steps of formal describing the properties of a design and of simulating its behaviour, while the other tool, the LOGE system, synthesizes the detailed logic structure, if the control flow description of a digital system is given. Both tools are used in industrial environments and have proven to reduce design time significantly.
