Summary
Supervision and control of high pressure gas transmission networks by means of advanced methods require a precise knowledge of the transient state of pressure and flow within the total pipeline system. For economical reasons it is necessary to estimate the actual state using only a few measurements at discrete locations. This task can be solved by a Luenberger type observer. In this paper we will discuss an application oriented design of such a large scale nonlinear distributed parameter observer and we will show some results from field tests.
