Endocrinological Investigations in 68 Children with Brain Tumours

  • Chapter
Tumours of the Central Nervous System in Infancy and Childhood

Abstract

Endocrinological investigations were performed in 68 children with intracranial tumours. In 33 children the tumour involved the hypothalamic area, whereas in the other 35 it did not. While there was no significant pituitary dysfunction in all 35 patients with tumours not involving the hypothalamic region, endocrinological problems played a role in about 50% of patients with suprasellar tumours. According to the site of the lesion, pituitary dysfunction could be identified as suprahypophyseal in origin [1].
