Ethanol-Lipemia — A Doubtful Risk Factor
Despite a recognized property of inducing hyperlipemia in both animals and humans (Lieber et al., 1962; Jones et al., 1963; Losowsky et al., 1963; Schapiro et al., 1965; Nestel and Hirsch, 1965; Baraona and Lieber, 1970; Baraona et al., 1973; Wilson et al., 1970; Avogaro and Cazzolato, 1975), ethanol (EOH) is thought to be a poor atherogenetic factor (Hirst et al., 1965; Viel et al., 1966; Spain and Bradess, 1957). It is not known insofar whether the poor atherogenetic property of EOH is due to any special feature of induced lipemia.
