Proliferative Response of Arterial Smooth Muscle Cells to Hyperlipemia
We have long been interested in the smooth muscle cell as one cell type actively involved in the process of atherogenesis. Our main focus has been its response to hyperlipemia as compared to its behavior in normal serum. To this effect we developed a tissue culture system of primary or subculture of aortic medial cells. Rhesus monkeys and rabbits were used as donors for the explants, as well as the hyperlipemic serum.
