Summary
The structure of modern process-automation-systems will be shown. CPUs are key-components. The standard microprocessors of today can play their part as CPUs at the low end of a process-computer-line. Process-automation-systems cannot follow the fast turn-over of microprocessor-types. It is necessary to keep the key-bus-lines and interface-procedures constant over a longer time-period. At what expense this can be done is demonstrated at two examples.
