Abstract

The location of energy-related industries has been getting a lot of attention since the recent “energy-crisis”, particularly in the countries of Western Europe, which have to rely heavily on supplies of energy from outside their area. Considerations of military strategy, balance of payments, and regional development were among the reasons for the increased interest. In the present article the historical location pattern of some selected energy-related industries in Western Europe will be analysed with a view to discovering the changes wrought by outside factors on-location patterns. For practical reasons the study has been confined to the period after the Second World War.
