Abstract

Both main bronchi are supported by cartilaginous rings which have the same characteristics as tracheal rings. This simple statement is to be found in most anatomical text-books. It means that main bronchial rings are C-shaped and completed at the back by a membranous part, that they may remain single or fuse and produce compound rings, similar to the ones in the trachea. It means, in short, that main bronchial and tracheal rings are alike.
