Abstract

I should like to express my thanks to the German Endocrine Society for the invitation to participate in this Symposium and my appreciation of the timely choice of topics for this morning’s discussion. Recent developments in the study of hormone effects and metabolism in prostate tissue hold the promise of bridging the large gap in biochemical knowledge between the developmental, histologic and clinical contributions of Lacassagne (1933 a, b), Huggins (1941, 1948), Moore (1947, 1952), Price (1957, 1963) and Woodruff (1960, 1962) and current concepts of the molecular mode of hormone action so admirably stated by Karlson (1963).

Supported by United States Public Health Service Grant CA-10343 from the National Cancer Institute and by appropriations of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Item 2026-50-02.
