Those who possess the gift of combining depth with breadth are rare indeed. Albert Einstein was one of them. I need only remind you of his main contributions to the advance of physics for your minds to be staggered by such creative versatility. First, there are the theories of relativity, special and general, and the unified field theory. In atomistics, there is the theory of Brownian motion and of fluctuations. In quantum theory, there are essentially the theory of the light quanta, or photons, and their contribution to the photoelectric effect, but there are in addition the theory of the specific heat of solids, important laws of photochemistry, stimulated emission as applied in the laser, Bose-Einstein statistics … You see that this list contains an impressive number of subjects, at least half of which might have qualified for various Nobel prizes; and, even so, I have not mentioned his minor inventions and discoveries, such as the inverse gyromagnetic effect and many more.
