Summary

After injection of double-labeled (7α-3H) 3β-hydroxy-5-pregnene-20-one-(35S) sulfate in human small intestines it could be shown, that there excists an enterohepatic circulation for this steroid. Compared to corresponding experiments with C19-steroid-sulfates more hydrolysed substrate was found in portal vein plasma. Whereas within the first minutes steroidsulfates in bile exhibited a practically unchanged 3H/35S ratio an increasing hydrolysis and resulfurylation of liberated steroids was observed.
