Summary
The capacity to bind oestradiol-17β and testosterone was measured in the serum of 8 male and 5 female patients with cirrhosis of the liver and in the serum of 10 male and 10 female normal human subjects. The following values were obtained (expressed as μg steroid bound per liter serum): 10.1 for oestradiol-17β in male and 10.6 for oestradiol-17β in female patients; 8.4 for oestradiol-17β in normal male and 11.2 for oestradiol-17β in normal female subjects. The corresponding values for testosterone were 9.1 for male and 9.3 for female patients with cirrhosis, whereas in normal subjects the values were 3.8 for males and 5.8 for females.
