Summary

The myometrium cell of the rabbit contains a 17β-hydroxysteroid: NAD(P) oxidoreductase, which can be induced by the physiological amount of 1 μg estradiol-17β/kg bw. The peak of the increase of activity, caused by 17ß/-estradiol, is reached within 40 h after administration of hormone. Possibly the duration of estrogen action on this target organ may be regulated by the cytoplasmatic 17β/-hydroxysteroid: NAD(P)-oxidoreduetase, which is reacting with estradiol-17β/ as substrate.
