Zusammenfassung

Die vegetationsgeschichtliche Forschung ist in zunehmendem Maße bestrebt, die kaltzeitliche Vegetation zu ermitteln; bislang hatte man sich statt dessen vorwiegend mit warmzeitlichen Bildungen beschäftigt. Eine Erforschung derjenigen Vegetation, die etwa in den heutigen kühl-und kaltgemäßigten Breiten der Nordhalbkugel während der Kaltzeiten geherrscht hatte, bietet jedoch große methodische Schwierigkeiten, zu deren Überwindung zahlreiche Untersuchungen angestellt worden sind. Die hierbei erzielten Resultate seien im folgenden zusammengestellt, da ihre Kenntnis für mehrere Zweige der Botanik wichtig ist.
