Summary
Extensive edematous changes were produced in the subcortical white matter of cats through extradural compression.
A marked proliferation of neuroglial cells in the edematous region was demonstrated autoradiographically after injection of H3-Thymidine. Apart from microglial cells mainly oligodendrocytes participate in the proliferation.
A distinctly increased incorporation of H3-l-Tyrosine in the edematous white substance is interpreted as an increase in protein metabolism of neuroglial cells due to the conditions of brain edema.
Zusammenfassung
Durch extradurale Kompression wurden bei Katzen ausgedehnte Ödem Veränderungen im Marklager der Großhirnhemisphäre erzeugt.
Autoradiographisch konnte nach Injektion von H3-Thymidin eine erhebliche Proliferation der Neuroglia im Bereiche der Ödemzone nachgewiesen werden. Neben der Mikroglia waren vorwiegend Oligodendrocyten an der Proliferation beteiligt.
Eine deutlich vermehrte Inkorporation von H3-l-Tyrosin durch die Gliazellen im Bereiche der ödematösen weißen Substanz wird als Steigerung des Eiweiß-Stoffwechsels durch die Bedingungen des Hirnödems gedeutet.
