Zusammenfassung
Von der genetischen Rekombination meint Hayes in seinem bekannten Buch „The Bacteria and their Viruses“ sie sei „one of the few dark corners of cellular behaviour which the recent developments of molecular biology have, so far, failed to illuminate“. In einem vorangegangenen Bericht in diesen Fortschritten (Vielmetter, Fortschr. Botan. 28, 1966)1 wurde versucht zu zeigen, daß das Verständnis für wenigstens einige grundlegende Vorgänge bei der genetischen Rekombination inzwischen Aufhellung erfahren hat. So ist sicher, daß entgegen lang gehegter anderer Meinung beim Rekombinationsaustausch auf molekularem Niveau rekombinierende DNS-Moleküle tatsächlich zerbrochen und in ihren elterlichen Anteilen vertauscht wieder zusammengefügt werden. Dabei entsteht in der Gegend der Austauschbrüche die charakteristische Struktur einer Heteroduplex, in der sich Einzelstränge der zusammengefügten elterlichen DNS-Doppelstrangmoleküle hybrid überlappen. Für die Deutung von Rekombinationsereignissen hat die Vorstellung der hybriden DNS, insbesondere in der Genetik der Pilze, große Bedeutung erlangt.
