Zusammenfassung

Bioptische Untersuchungen der Magenschleimhaut wurden gelegentlich schon Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts durchgeführt (Leuk, Literaturübersicht Heinkel et al., 1963). Schleimhautpartikel, die sich zur histologischen Untersuchung eigneten, wurden durch brüskes Ansaugen und Manipulieren bei der Magensaftaspiration mittels Sonde gewonnen. Eine allgemeine diagnostische Methode wurde daraus verständlicher Weise nicht, es blieben Zufallsergebnisse. Mit der Einführung der gastroskopischen Untersuchung (durch R. Schindleb, 1922) und der röntgenologischen Untersuchung (durch H. H. Berg, 1930) zur morphologischen Schleimhautdiagnostik ging das Interesse an der diagnostischen Probeentnahme von Magenschleimhaut zurück. Endoskopische und röntgenologische Gastritis-Diagnose galten drei Jahrzehnte lang als genügend zuverlässig. Das direkte und indirekte Bild des Schleimhautfaltenreliefs — so glaubte man — sei Ausdruck und Folge der Intensität und Form der Gastritis.
