Zusammenfassung
Die akut rheumatischen Krankheitsprozesse des Kindesalters spielen auch heute noch eine bedeutsame Rolle in der Pathologie des Kindes- und Jugendalters. Wenn auch seit einer Reihe von Jahren die Sterblichkeit stark zurückging — sicher nicht nur auf Grund verbesserter Behandlungsverfahren —, so ist doch immer noch mit einer großen Zahl von Spätschäden zu rechnen, die das fernere Leben erheblich beeinträchtigen können. Um so auffälliger ist es, daß gerade bei einer so verbreiteten Krankheit viele Fragen der Ätiologie und Pathogenese unbeantwortet blieben. Während der Laie rheumatische Erscheinungen gerne mit „Abkühlungsschäden“ in Beziehung bringt, wurde wissenschafthch anfänglich von zahlreichen Autoren eine spezifische Infektions-krankheit vermutet. Heute wird jedoch über-wiegend die besondere Reaktion auf einen Infekt neben konstitutionellen und Umweltfaktoren in den Vordergrund geschoben. — Auch das klinische Bild hat sich seit Jahren zunehmend gewandelt. Die ehemals so quälenden und damit auffälligen Gelenkerscheinungen traten mehr und mehr zurück, so daß unser Hauptinteresse heute den Herzschäden gilt.
