Zusammenfassung
In Aufzeichnungen von CELSUS (24) aus dem 1. Jahrhundert n.Chr. wurden bereits Knotenkropf und diffuse Vergrößerung der Schilddrüse unterschieden. Über ihre Funktion fehlte noch die richtige Vorstellung. Erst in den 80er und 90er Jahren des vorigen Jahrhunderts erkannte man die Bedeutung der Schilddrüse als Hormonbildungsstätte. MöBIUS 185) bezeichnete 1886 eine übermäßige Schilddrüsenfunktion, die zur Vergiftung des Körpers führte, als Thyreotoxikose
