Zusammenfassung

Seit dem Erscheinen dieses Kapitels in der ersten Auflage des Handbuches im Jahre 1930, das von Fehr bearbeitet wurde, hat die Häufigkeit der gonorrhoischen Erkrankungen des Auges stark abgenommen, und zwar in einem solchen Ausmaße, daß der akademische Lehrer in unseren Breitegraden jährlich kaum mehr einen Fall von ausgeprägter Conjunctivitis gonorrhoica seinen Hörern zeigen kann, und daß viele Ärzte die Erkrankung des Auges nur aus den Lehrbüchern und den darin enthaltenen Abbildungen, aber nicht mehr aus eigener Anschauung kennen. Während der letzten 14 Jahre konnte ich an meiner Klinik in Wien meinen Studenten nur zehn Fälle von Gonoblennorrhoea neonatorum und nur vier Fälle von Gonoblennorrhoea adultorum in der Vorlesung zeigen. Vor, aber auch noch nach dem ersten Weltkriege hatte es in Wien und wohl an allen größeren Augenkliniken des europäischen Kontinentes „Blennorrhoestationen“ gegeben, in denen Erwachsene und Kinder mit gonorrhoischer Conjunctivitis abgesondert von den übrigen Augenkranken behandelt wurden. Eigene „Blennorrhoe-Schwestern“, die in allen nötigen Handgriffen der Behandlung geschult waren, standen den Ärzten zur Seite. Dies alles gehört in unseren Breitengraden der Vergangenheit und eigentlich schon der Geschichte der Medizin an.
