Zusammenfassung
Die Thalassämie ist eine angeborene mehr oder minder schwere Anämie, die durch eine Minderwertigkeit der Erythrocyten charakterisiert ist. Sie manifestiert sich in drei verschiedenen Krankheitsgraden. Die schwerste Form entspricht dem homozygoten Status der Thalassämie-Gene. Sie ist letal und bietet das Krankheitsbild, welches von Cooley bei Kindern beschrieben wurde und als Cooley-Anämie oder Thalassaemia major (Valentine und Neel, 1944) bekannt ist.
