Meilensteine der Pankreatitisforschung sind die Monographie von Körte (1898), die Arbeiten Opies (1901) und Gulekes (1912), die Monographie von Gross und Guleke (1924), ferner die Arbeiten von Archibald (1919), von Dragstedt, Haymond und Ellis (1934), von Rich und Duff (1936) und in neuester Zeit die Monographien über die Chirurgie des Pankreas von Hess (1950), von Cattell und Warben (1953) und von Leger und Brehant (1956). In den letzten Jahrzehnten haben sieh außerdem mehrere Arbeitsgruppen mit diesem Gebiet beschäftigt und zahlreiche Publikationen vorgelegt. Erwähnt Scien hier nur die Arbeitskreise von Katsch, von Popper, von Mallet-Guy und von Grossman sowie die team-works der Mayo-Klinik (Comfort, Gambill U. a.) und verschiedener New Yorker Kliniken (Doubilet U.
