Zusammenfassung

Die Cytoplasmaforschung steht seit geraumer Zeit fast ausschließlich unter anatomischen und morphologischen Aspekten. Hier verdanken wir der Anwendung des Elektronenmikroskops und der Dünnschnitt-Technik wahrhaft großartige Ergebnisse (vgl. den Abschnitt Submikroskopische Morphologie). Die überwältigende Fülle an Strukturdetails läßt es wenig aussichtsreich erscheinen, mit chemischen Methoden die Physiologie „des“Cytoplasmas aufzuklären. Soweit daher chemische Beiträge vorliegen, betreffen sie entweder Cytoplasmafraktionen (z. B. Myxomyosin), oder Eiweißstoffe, die anderweitig in größeren Mengen annähernd einheitlich erhalten werden können (z. B. Serumalbumin), oder aber einzelne Enzyme und deren Aktivität (vgl. etwa Hagihara et al). Dem kontraktilen Myxomyosin, das Ts’o u. Mitarb. (vgl. Fortschr. Bot. 20) extrahiert haben, wird für das lebende Plasma keine große Bedeutung beigemessen; Stewart u. Stewart (b) vertreten die Auffassung, daß die actomyosinähnlichen Fibrillen nur post mortem zu beobachten sind, ihre Existenz in vivo hingegen noch unbewiesen ist (s. auch S. 150).
