Zusammenfassung

Für die medikamentöse Behandlung körperlicher und seelischer Leiden stehen heute dem Arzt eine ins Unermeßliche angewachsene Zahl von Pharmaka zur Verfügung, größtenteils synthetisch gewonnene chemische Erzeugnisse mit z. T. differenten pharmakodynamischen Wirkbildern, aber auch mit z.T. toxischen Eigenschaften, die eine Behandlung zum gefährlichen Eingriff in die dem Kranken noch verbliebene Restgesundheit werden lassen kann. Es muß daher zum Grundsatz der modernen Pharmakotherapie erhoben werden, daß der Arzt nur solche Heilmittel verwendet, mit deren Wirkungsweise er auf das engste vertraut ist. Diese Vertrautheit braucht sich dabei nur auf einige wenige Präparate zu erstrecken, denn unter der Fülle der für ihn bereitstehenden Medikamente kann deutlich zwischen hochwirksamen, wirkungslosen, überflüssigen und toxischen Substanzen unterschieden werden. Zu den pharmakologisch wirkungsvollsten modernen Heilmitteln gehören u. a. auch die Neuroleptica und Antihistaminica, mit deren Wesen sich die vorliegende Arbeit beschäftigt.
