Abstract

The first successful operation for patent ductus arteriosus, which was performed by GROSS on August 26, 1938, was the prelude to all modern cardiac surgery. As early as 1907, MUXRO suggested that patent ductus arteriosus should be surgically corrected, but the first attempt was not made until March 16, 1938, by STRIEDER. The following study is based on 390 cases operated on in Stockholm.
