Zusammenfassung

Morphologische Untersuchungen wenden sich in zunehmendem Maße den lang vernachlässigten Gametophyten zu, deren Eigenschaften mehr und mehr der Systematik dienstbar gemacht werden. Freilich gilt dies weniger für die knolligen, reduzierten, heterotrophen Prothallien von Ophioglossaceen, wo etwa Bierhorst bei einigen amerikanischen Botrychium-Arten eine erhebliche Variabilität feststellen konnte – bei Konstanz gewisser Merkmale innerhalb bestimmter Auf Sammlungen. — In normalen Fällen scheint besonders die Sonderstellung „alter“Farngattungen durch die Merkmale der Gametophyten fast durchwegs bestätigt zu werden. Bei den sehr alt werdenden Prothallien der Osmundaceae finden Stokey U. Atkinson (1) chlorophyllreiche Rhizoiden, Anordnung der Archegonien in zwei Reihen entlang der Mittelrippe, sowie als besonders charakteristisch für die Familie in Eizelle und Kanalzellen der Archegonien Stärkebildung. Die Gametophyten von Loxsoma und Loxsomopsis zeigen nach den nämlichen Autoren (2) im Antheridienbau Beziehungen zu den Cyatheceen.
